The Montessori approach in brief
Dr Maria Montessori developed a method built on respect for the child, a carefully prepared environment and hands-on materials that children choose and use independently. Teachers observe and guide rather than lecture. Montessori classrooms usually mix ages and give children long, uninterrupted periods of focused work.
Montessori and ECCE together
Montessori is one method within early childhood education. Many teachers take the ECCE Certificate or Diploma for the broad foundation of care, development and child psychology, and Montessori training for the method. Read ECCE vs Montessori vs Nursery Teacher Training.
