ECCE Certificate vs Diploma vs PG Diploma
Choose the 120-hour ECCE Certificate (Class 10 entry) for an affordable introduction or carer and assistant roles. Choose the 200-hour Diploma (Class 12 entry) for preschool and nursery teacher roles, because it adds case studies, lesson planning and a project. Graduates aiming for lead-teacher or coordinator roles should choose the 240-hour PG Diploma, or Master Level to add specialist certificates.

What changes as you move up
Each level adds depth and assessed practical work. The Certificate is assessed through module MCQs or assignments. The Diploma and PG Diploma add case studies and lesson planning reviewed by instructors, and the Diploma ends with a project. Master levels add specialist certificates in learning disability, phonetics, 21st century skills, classroom management and child psychology.
Which level do employers want?
Private preschools and daycares usually accept a certificate for assistant roles and prefer a diploma or a degree for teacher roles. Coordinator and head roles often ask for a degree plus an ECCE qualification and experience. International schools usually need a degree and a recognised teaching qualification for their country. Upgrading later
You can start with the Certificate and move up later. Ask admissions about moving to the Diploma or PG Diploma when you finish.
Time and cost compared
The Certificate takes up to 6 months and costs US$170 or ₹11,800. The Diploma takes up to 10 months and costs US$250 or ₹17,700. The PG Diploma takes up to 12 months and costs US$399 or ₹29,500. Fast-track add-ons are available on the first three levels and are free at Master levels.
A simple rule
If you will be responsible for planning and leading a class, choose at least the Diploma. If you will assist, care for children at home or want to explore the field first, the Certificate is enough to start.
Example learners and the level they chose
- A new mother wanting to understand her baby: Certificate.
- A Class 12 student aiming for a playschool teacher job: Diploma.
- A commerce graduate switching careers into early years: PG Diploma.
- A preschool teacher who wants to support children with learning difficulties: Master Level with Learning Disability and Child Psychology.
- A teacher planning to open her own preschool: Integrated Master Level.
What a hiring manager sees
A preschool owner reading two CVs sees the difference quickly. The Certificate shows you understand children and care. The Diploma shows you can plan lessons, analyse a child's behaviour and complete a substantial project. The PG Diploma shows that a graduate has studied early childhood at depth and can lead. Experience and a good demo then decide the job.
If budget is tight
Start with the Certificate (US$170 or ₹11,800) and work as an assistant while you save for the Diploma. Many learners find that their first months in a preschool make the Diploma's case studies and lesson plans much easier and more meaningful.
Fast-track or standard pace?
Standard pace suits most people working or caring for children. Choose fast-track if you have a job offer that needs the certificate by a date, or if you can study 10 or more hours a week. Fast-track is free at Master levels.
